Fig. 7 Doily
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
You will tie your mat, pad or doily at each intersection of yarn. We have numbered the holes around the first two.
intersections to give you the step-by-step procedure. Continue tying at each intersection around the outside of
the loom, then work toward the center of the pad.
NOTE: 1. Your pad, mat or doily will be upside down on the loom with the knots up for ease in working.
2. Use the shuttle the same way you would a needle except unwind the yarn from it as needed.
3. We recommend using the needle for tying coasters.
STEP 8. To tie the second intersection of yarn,
thread the shuttle down through hole #9, up through
hole #5, drawing the shuttle through the loop and
pulling yarn snug. Thread shuttle down through hole
#10, up through hole #3, drawing it through the
loop and pulling yarn snug. Then thread the shuttle
down through hole #8 and up through hole #7.
Draw the shuttle through the loop and pull yarn snug
to complete tying of second intersection. See Figure
1
STEP 5. Use the yarn in contrasting color for tying.
Wind the yarn on to the shuttle until it is approx-
imately ¥2" thick. Thread the shuttle through triangu-
lar holes #1 and #2 at the corner nearest the Start
Position. Tie the bottom end of the tying yarn
snugly. See Figure 8.
STEP 6. Thread shuttle and tying yarn down
through #3 and up through hole #4, and then
through the loop and pull snug. See Figure 9.
STEP 7. Thread shuttle down through #5 and up
through hole #6 being sure to thread shuttle through
the loop of yarn held in left hand. Pull snug. See
Figure 10.
Fig. 10
STEP 9. Continue as in Steps 5, 6 and 7 for each
intersection around the loom until reaching the cen-
ter of the pad or mat. See Figures 12 and 13. Splice
on more yarn as needed to complete this step. Note:
Splice tying yarn using a square knot. Trim ends of
yarn at the knot.
Fig. 14
Fig. 15 Fig. 16
STEP 10. Finishing the edges (we recommend options 2, 3, 4, or 5 when making the flower pattern):
Option #1. At the Starting Point, tie the loose ends of the yarn to make a loop the size of the others and trim at the
knot after removing your pad, mat or doily from the loom. Leave all the loops uncut.
Option #2. Cut only the long loops and trim to the length of the short loops. See Figure 14.
Option #3.Cut all the loops and trim to an even length.
Option #4.Cut all the loops and brush to fray. See Figures 21 and 22, page 8.
Option #5.Using the needle, bind all the loops before removing from the loom. Push the pad half-way up the
pegs before binding. See Figure 15. Using the plastic yarn needle, lace the yarn behind the loops on each peg, as
well as through the loop formed by this binding yarn to make a knot. Make 2 knots at each peg. See Figure 16.
Continue binding all pegs around the loom, and tie off at the Start Position.
FLOWER
PATTERN (for Dinner Set)
May be made on all size looms.
Materials:
Select two contrasting colors of yarn.
Determine which color you want the flower petals to
be. The other color will be used for bordering the
flowers and

for tying.
ie one end of the yarn to be used for
bordering the flowers and tying onto the peg at the
Start Position. Lace the yarn around the peg at Point
A, and in a figure eight pattern, lace the yarn around
the peg directly opposite. See Figure 17.
STEP 2.S
around the
ip the peg next to Point A. Lace the yarn
next peg and, in a figure eight pattern,
lace the yarn around the peg directly opposite it.
Continue lacing the yarn on the loom in this manner
missing every other peg until reaching Point B.
STEP 3. From Point B go directly to the next peg
around the corner, missing the corner peg. See Fig-
ure 18. Continue lacing across the loom, missing
every other peg until reaching Point C.
Fig. 19
STEP 4. From Point C go directly to the next peg
around the corner, missing the corner peg. See Fig-
ure 19. Continue lacing as before, missing every
other peg until reaching the Starting Point. See Fig-
ure 20. You have now completed one layer.
STEP 5. Make one more layer repeating Steps 1
through 4. Tie off the yarn around the peg at the
Starting Point and cut.
STEP 6. Tie the contrasting yarn to be used for the
flower petals on the peg at the Start Position. Follow
the general lacing instructions in Steps 1-4 on pages 3
and 4. Make 2 layers. Tie off.
Fig. 20
STEP 7. Tying. Use the instructions in Steps 5
through 9 on pages 5 and 6. You may use the same
color you used to border the flowers, ora third color if
desired.
NOTE: To save yarn in Step 6, lace the contrasting
yams only on the empty pegs instead of every peg.
The results are similar.
STEP 8. Figures 21 and 22 show one way to finish
the edges. For other ways, see Step 10 on page 6.

posite. Lace the yarn around
each set of pegs 3 times before
moving on to the next set of
pegs.
THE BORDER DESIGN
Use the lacing instructions that come with your loom,
but for the first two layers adapt the instructions in the
following manner:
1. Inadark color, wind the yarn only on pegs land 3.
See diagram to the right.
2. Turn the loom to the second side and wind the
yarn only on pegs 1 and 3 again.
3. Continue in this manner until you have laced pegs
1 and 3 on each of the 6 sides of the loom. This
completes one layer.
2. Skip the peg next to Point A. Lace the yarn
around the next peg and, in a figure eight pattern,
lace the yarn around the peg directly opposite. Lace
the yarn around each set of pegs 3 times before
moving on to the next set of pegs. Continue lacing
the yarn in this manner, skipping every other peg
until reaching Point B. See Figure 1.
3. From Point B, go directly to the next peg around
the corner, missing the corner peg. Continue lacing
around the loom, missing every other peg until
reaching Point C. See Figure 2.
4. From Point C, go to the 2nd peg past corner
(blank peg). Continue lacing all BLANK pegs until
reaching the Start Position. See Figure 3. Tie off and
add green.
5. Follow steps 1-4 of the general lacing instructions
