Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Quarantine and Isolation (QI) Medical
Shelters


In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Los Angeles County has established eight quarantine and
isolation medical shelters to house COVID-infected or COVID-exposed individuals who cannot
quarantine or isolate in their homes, either because they don’t have a home or because they
cannot remain at home given risks to others in their households. The Lead Nurse will assist with
administrative tasks such as staffing, quality assurance implementation, and priority setting
across the entire QI system. The Lead Nurse will be report to the Nurse Manager.


JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Lead Nurse responsibilities include the following:


e Provides clinical leadership for the subordinate staff

e Oversees QI sites

e Assists with setting priorities and directs employees to other tasks as the need arises

e Assists in the development of new policies and updating of currant nursing policies

e Handles occurrences during the shift ensuring appropriate documentation and
communication

e Addresses client care, and any other issues that may arise

e Ensures adequate staffing and any other issues that may arise

e Assists and direct nurses and other staff as needed

e Oversees new employees’ orientation and in-service instruction

e Provides technical, clinical and administrative direction to staff

e Adopts an approach to contribute quality improvement that includes setting priorities,
planning for improvement and sustaining improvements

e Assists with implementation processes and procedures

e Provides support and guidance to subordinate staff to ensure team members adherence to
standards of practice

e Acts asa resource to all team members

e Assists in initiating non disciplinary and disciplinary measures for subordinate personnel
as indicated

e Oversees the management of onsite COVID-19 testing and procurement of testing
supplies

e Assists in maintaining staff credentials, licenses, CPR, and mandatory classes as require
by the department

e Assists with direct or indirect patient care, as needed

e Assists with coordination of arranging the return of patient’s belongings and the
procurement of durable medical equipment

e Assists in assuring nursing adherence to policy and procedures

e Supports the development of schedules and staffing plans

e Additional duties as assigned by Nurse Manager
